Guwahati, April 21, 2019:

Assam's cricketing sensation Riyan Parag (17) won the hearts of every Assamese by stepping onto the IPL pitch wearing the 'traditional' Assamese gamusa during the IPL match between Rajathan Royals and Mumbai Indians at Jaipur.

The Gamusa is an article of great significance for the people of Assam. It is generally a white rectangular piece of cloth with primarily a red border on three sides and red woven motifs on the fourth. It is usually gifted by the Assamese as a symbol of goodwill and respect during the occasion of Bihu.

Moreover, Parag, who was only playing his second IPL match representing the Rajasthan Royals, was instrumental in the side's 5-wicket win against former Champions Mumbai Indians as he scored a valuable 43 runs. It is worth mentioning that if Parag had scored a fifty, he would have become the youngest to score a half-century in the IPL.

The boys from Rajasthan overhauled the target of 161 set by Mumbai Indians with five balls to spare.
