Assam: Strict legal steps would be taken against mob-lynching cases: AHRC

The Assam Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has expressed serious concern over the increasing of mob-lynching cases in the state and warned to take strict legal steps against the cases which have been creating resented and chaos in the state.

A two-member delegation of the Assam Human Rights Commission(AHRC) led by its chairperson.

Justice T Vaiphai and member Deva Kumar Saikia have arrived in Kokrajhar today and visited at district jail and quarantine centres in the district.

Deputy Commissioner, Kokrajhar Bhaskar Phukan and senior officials received the delegation team and offered felicitation with traditional Aronai at Circuit House.

The delegation team interacted with jail inmates and quarantine centre inmates and took stock about basic need facilities offering which includes folding, conditions of staying inside the jail and centres. They have checked on the management and basic need facilities provided from the concern authorities for the inmates in Assam.

Member of the commission, Deva Kumar Saikia told that the commission members have been checking and taking stocks about the distributions of basic need facilities among the jail or quarantine centre inmates in Assam. He has revealed that many complaints have been received over the irregularities reports in maintaining jail or quarantine centres across the state. He has emphasized that proper facilities including foooding, staying facilities must be given among the inmates in a proper way during their stay.

Saikia strongly reacted over the increasing of mob-lynching cases which has been claimed several persons in the state.He said the commission is taking stern legal steps by issuing suo motto to the involved persons and involved culprits would be checked and punished.He said that the commission was working dedicatedly towards building up a healthy society in Assam.
