Assam: Thousands Throng AJYCP’s “War Cry” Against CAA in Sadiya

Tinsukia, January 5, 2020:

Thousands of people thronged the Chapakhowa Sports Playground in Assam’s Sadiya to attend the Asom Jatiyatabad Yuba Chhatra Parishad (AJYCP) “War Cry” against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act on Sunday.

President of AJYCP, Rana Pratap Baruah, Organising Secretary Kan Gogoi and representatives of several other indigenous organisations participated in the War Cry against the CAA.

Citing the example of Saturday’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) meeting in Guwahati’s Khanapara, wherein the party workers were not allowed to carry anything in black, a participant said, “The BJP does not believe in its own party workers. They were thoroughly checked before they entered the premises. Any handkerchief or other clothing in black had to be kept outside the meeting premise. I want to tell the BJP workers that your own party chiefs do not have faith in you. They have betrayed you as well.”

He warned Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to be careful of his actions. “We do not accept the BJP’s efforts to divide us on the basis of our religions, communities and our other identities. We will continue with our Andolan,” he added.

It may be mentioned here that there has been mass resistance against the CAA that offers citizenship to non-Muslims from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan on grounds of religious persecution. Assam has been battling against the government’s decision to implement the law in Assam.
