GUWAHATI: Traces of Coronavirus found in Guwahati's Bharalu river as per report.

In a recent study funded by UNICEF, done by the researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Gandhinagar under Professor Manish Kumar, has established the presence of coronavirus in water samples from the Sabarmati river and two lakes in Ahmedabad city of Gujarat.

Though the study did not reveal if the genes of the virus found in the water samples were dead or alive, PTI reported.

The claims of the presence of the coronavirus in the Bharalu river have surfaced around right after the revelation of this study and triggered panic among the public.

Kumar has emphasized the need for a further probe to avert any future tragedy.

After the findings, the samples have been sent to the Gujarat Biotechnology Research Centre (GBRC) by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).

The above-mentioned study was conducted between September and December 2020 and water samples were collected from the Sabarmati river, Chandola and Kankaria lakes of the city, as per the report.
