GUWAHATI: Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday disclosed that a person who recently returned from the United Kingdom has tested positive for COVID-19.
The minister said that the person has tested positive after returning from UK, where a new mutated strain of the virus has emerged. Sarma has stated that it has not been confirmed whether the returnee has the new strain of the virus. The result will be confirmed after three days, the minister further said.

The Assam Chief Secretary Jishnu Barua on Friday declared guidelines to be followed this Christmas and New Year in order to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 in the state. The guidelines shall come into force with effect from December 25 to January 10.
Earlier, the Meghalaya government on imposed ban on the entry of all visitors from the United Kingdom into the state.
