Radha Kumari, student of Assam Agriculture University was raped and brutally murdered while travelling in a train at Simaluguri, yesterday. According to reports the girl boarded the train at 8:50am and her semi clad body was recover from the train toilet at 9:10am. The girl carried Rs 10,000 with her was missing which indicates women are not secure.

Talking to InsideNe, AASU Chief Advisor Samujjal Bhattacharya said that the incident that took place is intolerable. The Railway has failed to provide security to its passengers. “Not just the culprits, exemplary actions need to be taken against the security members as well. There has been security lapse from the part of the railways. The railways should appoint more local people into the security services. Railway Minister must come up with a statement regarding the issue and take necessary action in this regards. The women and girls are not secure in Assam” he added.

The Assam Police in this case has further twitted on their official twitter page that investigation has been launched immediately after the incident. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) is formed andis being supervised at the highest level. Anyone having any information in this regard has been asked to come forward without any fear.
