Assamese Actor Nishita Appeals To All To Preserve And Save Deepor Beel

Noted Assamese actor Nishita Goswami has appealed to all to preserve and save Deepor Beel.

While endorsing the #LetsSaveDeeporBeel campaign launched by Inside Northeast Nishita said, “Deepor Beel is a beautiful tourist spot of Assam. People from different parts of the country and abroad visit this place every year. So we need to preserve and save it. Let’s keep Deepor Beel clean and beautiful.”

Appreciating the initiative of Inside Northeast to create awareness to save Deepor Beel Nishita said, “I support #LetsSaveDeeporBeel campaign by Inside Northeast, I am with them.”

The Beel has been struggling for its very existence since the past few years. Real estate players have been encroaching on it.

Altogether 170 species of Birds has been enlisted by Assam Forest department. Among these bird species - two critically endangered, one endangered, five vulnerable and four near threatened such Spot Billed Pelican, Lesser Adjutant Stork, Greater Adjutant Stork, Black Necked Stork, and Large Whistling Teal.

The most notable bird species found in the sanctuary are Kingfishers, Fishing Eagles, a plethora of ducks, Greater Adjutant Stork, Whistling Teal, Open Billed Stork, Shoveler, Pintail, Garganey and high concentration of Pheasant Tail Jacanas.

There is also a huge dump near the Beel. And a Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) Plant where the waste from a rapidly expanding Guwahati ends. Guwahati Municipal Corporation dumps the garbage in the vicinity of Deepor Beel.

On October 9, 2018, the principal bench of the NGT, New Delhi, asked the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) to stop laying of the second railway track.

The NGT also made it clear that the railway authorities had to follow the steps recommended in the tribunal’s order of January 18, 2018.
