Assam's war against drugs continues unabated; several smugglers nabbed

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday lauded Assam Police for seizing a large amount of illegal drugs along with a substantial sum of cash.

Assam police registered 20 cases and arrested 35 persons in connection with the recovery.

Based on credible information about the alleged nexus of the Deputy Superintendent Jatin Chandra Das Dhubri with smugglers, several raids were been conducted yesterday night by Dhubri Police and officials seized unaccounted cash worth Rupees 4.77 lakh.

Accused Jatin Das APS, DSP (B) has been arrested along with one smuggler named Rafikul Paramanik alias Opi.

Baksa police has also intensified the anti-drugs drive in the district. Today, a team of police raided Kumarikata market along the Indo-Bhutan border.

They succeeded in seizing a large amount of cannabis.

Police also arrested a 24-year-old youth named Ambrush Narzary and seized 8.97 kg of cannabis from his possession.

Police seized the cannabis while the youth was coming to the Kumarikata market from Rawta in Udalguri district riding a number plateless motorcycle.

A case has been registered against the arrested youth at Tamulpur police station.

Police are continuing interrogation for more information.
