AIZAWL: Brig(Dr) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) has sworn as Governor of Mizoram in addition to his regular duties as Governor of Arunachal Pradesh this evening at the Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan in Aizawl.

This appointment from the President of India is an interim arrangement during the absence of Governor Haribabu Kambhampati, who is currently on leave.

Brig B.D Mishra was administered the oath of office by Justice Michael Zothankhuma, Judge on behalf of the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court.

The Warrant of Appointment of Mishra as the Governor of Mizoram was read out by Lalnunmawia Chuango, Chief Secretary.

With this appointment, Brig B.D Mishra has effectively become the 23rd Governor of the state since 1987.

The official Photograph session was held after the ceremony at the upper lawn, Raj Bhavan.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by state Chief Minister Zoramthanga, Tawnluia, Deputy Chief Minister, Speaker Lalrinliana Sailo, Council of Ministers, MLAs, Chief Secretary, DGP, leaders from political parties, leaders of the leading NGOs.

Before his appointment to the Governor of Mizoram, Brig B.D Mishra (Retd.) is the incumbent Governor of Arunachal Pradesh.

Mishra retired from the Indian Army on 31 July 1995, after a career that began as a permanent regular infantry officer, on 17 December 1961.

During his service years, Mishra as the commander of NSG Counter Hijack Task Force, received the Prime Minister's appreciation for his role in ending the hijack crisis by saving the lives of all 124 passengers and the crew of a hijacked Indian Airlines at Raja Sansi Airfield, Amritsar on April 24, 1993.

Brig B.D Mishra was born on July 20,  1939, in Kathauta, Bhadohi District, United Provinces of British India (Present-day Uttar Pradesh).
