UDALGURI: Badruddin Ajmal, the Chief of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) today exuded confidence about forging a Grand Alliance with the Congress to contest the ensuing Assembly polls in Assam that is scheduled to be held in 2021.

"We are 100% hopeful that there will be an Alliance between the Congress and the AIUDF in the ensuing polls in Assam," Badruddin Ajmal said on the sidelines of an election rally in the Bodoland Territorial Council's Udalguri.

Responding to a query about whether the Congress High Command will give its nod to the party's state unit to align with the AIUDF, Ajmal said, "That is a completely internal matter. For 15 years, we have been a part of the Congress-led UDA at the Centre. We are prepared to do whatever needs to be done in Delhi. We have already aligned locally in the BTC which is why we are now campaigning together."

Talking about the proposed alliance between the Grand Old Party and the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) can only be taken after the Delhi-based High Command of the party gives its nod. Bora maintained that since the Congress party is a national party, all the decisions are finalized by the party's top brass.

"The decision about 2021 will be taken by the High Command as we are a national party. Today is about the BTC and the local issues," Bora said.
