Guwahati, September 8, 2019:

Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited Guwahati city of Assam on Sunday to take part in a Convention of the Northeastern Council (NEC) in Guwahati city of Assam, today. All the eight Chief Ministers from the Northeastern States were also present.

Blowing the bugle of 'development, Amit Shah said that the BJP under the leadership of Amit Shah said that the party is committed to developing the region, but added that the development "must not come at a cost to the indigenous people" of the region.

How would the proposed development come about, then? Shah believes that the development of the bamboo industry is the key to unlocking the potential in the Northeastern states. The Union Minister also assured that the Narendra Modi-led NDA Government is committed to developing the bamboo sector in the Northeast. Shah also added that the Government will allocate 30% of its funds to the rural sectors, in a bid to boost productivity.

The Gandhinagar MP Shah also affirmed that the Northeast has progressed by leaps and bounds in the past five years, after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) assumed leadership at the Centre.

Remembering the 'Bard of Brahmaputra, Shri Bhupen Hazarika, on his 93rd death anniversary, Shah also promised to give a "platform" for the arts and culture in the Northeast.

It may be added here that the bamboo industry provides a source of livelihood to many in the Northeastern states of India. In a bid to develop it as a potential mega-industry, the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, North East India MDoNER Dr. Jitendra Singh on Wednesday announced that India’s first-ever “Bamboo Industry Park” will be set up in Assam’s Dima Hasao district.
