JALUKIE: Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) of Peren have called for a bandh in the district today after the brutal gunning down of 3 villagers at Lamhainamdi village by suspected militants.

The NZPO has urged the business establishments, schools, and offices under the Peren district to remain closed during the bandh.

People from the district will gather at Jalukie and head for the funeral of the deceased at Lamhainamdi village later today.

The shooting reportedly occurred when the trio was farming at Lamhainamdi village under Peren district.

According to reports, the bodies of the deceased along with their vehicle were found burnt.

Two victims are residents of Peren town, originally from Benreu village and Mpai village respectively. The identity of the third person is yet to be ascertained.

Jalukie police have said that “it is too early” to give out more information and the investigation is underway.

It is suspected that the shooting is the handiwork of rebels as earlier on March 2, three civilians were taken captive by NSCN (U) from the same village.

The Zeliangrong Students’ Union (ZSUN), held a peaceful protest rally in Jalukie against the illegal confinement of civilians and submitted a memorandum seeking the intervention of the Governor of Nagaland Shri RN Ravi into the matter.

The civilians were released on March 15.
