Speaking on the lines of the CAA and National Register of Citizens (NRC), Hasina said that although the two citizenship exercises were India’s internal matter, she called the act unnecessary.

Hasina, who is in the UAE capital of Abu Dhabi, informed that there has been no recorded reverse migration from India and added that the people of India were facing many problems due to the CAA.

The Bangladesh Prime Minister’s statement has come days after the implementation of the CAA. Widespread protests have been witnessed across the nation following the government’s implementation of the controversial CAA. Around 25 deaths were reported in the agitation against the Act, which provides citizenship to non-Muslims from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

People of Assam state have been spearheading the agitation as it had been facing the issue of illegal Bangladeshi migrants since decades. Protests have continued despite the release of the official notification implementing the CAA.
