KOKRAJHAR: The newly formed National Liberation Front of Boroland (NLFB), believed to be led by former National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) leader M Batha, has called an Assam bandh tomorrow in view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed visit to here.

A media intimation, signed by B Bungtigwra of the armed outfit, has called an “Assam/Bodoland bandh” tomorrow. However, the duration has not been mentioned.

“Hope this will be observed very strictly, or else anything may happen and if so the Authorities will be responsible,” the intimation added.

According to police and military intelligence, Batha is believed to have formed the organisation disappointed by the fact that NDFB chairman Ranjan Daimari was still in jail more than a year after the Bodo Accord was signed and NDFB has been disbanded. He is also stated to have taken offence for the Centre’s failure to secure release of jailed NDFB cadres in Bhutan and inadequate steps taken for rehabilitation of surrendered NDFB cadres.

This is the first time the NLB has called a bandh or threatened to strike if it is not observed. Parts of the Bodoland Territorial Region will also go to polls tomorrow.
