Batha's return to mainstream reflects people’s trust on govt. policies: Himanta Biswa Sarma

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today said that the surrender of M. Batha, Chief of National Liberation Front of Bodoland (NLFB) was a sign that the people had trust in government policies.

M Batha, alias Bindo Mushahary is likely to surrender before the Assam police in Majbat police station in Udalguri district along with 60 other cadres of the outfit. He is supposed to enter Assam from the Sikaridanga area of the district in the Assam-Arunachal Border at around 12 noon.

Two days back, the National Investigation Agency announced a bounty of Rs. 10 lakh on Batha.

Talking to Twitter, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “People’s trust on the Govt policies is reflected by NLFB’s decision to return to the mainstream today. I welcome their homecoming. We reiterate our commitment for all round the development of Bodoland and to protect the unique Socio-cultural and political identity of Bodo people.

The National Liberation Front of Bodoland (NLFB) is an arms revolutionary group that was floated in March 2020, a year after the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) signed the Bodo Bodo Peace Accord in January 2020 and got disbanded.

Assam Minister Piyush Hazarika, Additional Director General of Police GP Singh and other officials from Assam police are going to welcome Batha and other members of the outfit to the mainstream.

Himanta Biswa Sarma also thanked Union Home Minister Amit Shah in another tweet this morning.

While sharing a live visual of the cadres approaching Assam, he wrote, “Further peace dawns in BTR with the homecoming of NLFB top cadres to mainstream. A great leap towards a peaceful Assam. Sharing live visuals of the event. Grateful to Adarniya Griha Mantri Shri Amit Shah ji for his constant guidance and support.
