NEW DELHI: Traders' body the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has called for a 'Bharat bandh' on February 26 demanding a review of the provisions of the goods and services tax (GST) regime. It said all commercial markets across the country will remain closed on February 26.

CAIT leaders have said that protests demanding the Centre, state governments, and the Good and Service Tax (GST) Council to keep in abeyance the "draconian" provisions of GST will be held in over 1,500 places.

CAIT Secretary-General Praveen Khandelwal, speaking at a press conference, said the trader’s body was also talking to the government on this subject.

Khandelwal said that on February 26, the All India Transporters Welfare Association (AITWA) would also hold a 'Chakka Jam' supporting the Bharat Bandh call.

Along with CAIT, more than 40,000 trade associations across the nation will support the Bandh.

Adding that the issues related to the GST portal failures and the constant rise in the burden of enforcement are the major gaps in the tax regime, Khandelwal said in the past four years, nearly 950 changes to the GST rules have been made.
