Guwahati, November 10, 2019:

The National Federation of Indian Gorkhas or Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangha has condemned Non Resident Nepali (NRN) organisations of the country for speaking on matters of Gorkhas residing in Assam.

It has especially turned down heavily on a recent statement by the organisation, Akhil Bharat Nepali Ekta Samaj which had requested the government of Nepal to speak with the Indian government regarding the exclusion of about one lakh Nepalese from the National Register of Citizen (NRC).

A joint statement released by the Assam State Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangha president Nityananda Upadhyay and General Secretary Prakash Dahal said that the NRN organisations had no right to speak about Gorkhas of India.

It said that they had no right to speak on the internal matters of the country. “NRC is a matter of Indians and Indian Gorkhas have full faith in its judiciary and democracy that the left out genuine Indian Gorkhas shall be included sooner or later. Gorkhas will abide by Indian constitution only,” it said.

The statement further added that ‘Nepali’ which means Nepali nationals cannot apply in the NRC. It also stated that if any Nepali citizen, enjoying Indo Nepal Friendship Treaty 1950 rights in India has applied for the NRC, it should be immediately investigated and stopped.

It may be mentioned here that the Akhil Bharat Nepali Ekta Samaj is a Nepali national organisation which had sought Electoral rights for the Nepali nationals in India.

The statement strictly warned the NRN organisation to mind its own business and to refrain from interfering in Gorkhas’ issues.
