New Delhi, February 17, 2020:

Bharti Airtel has deposited Rs 10,000 crore to the department of telecommunications (DoT) as part of its adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues to the Government of India.

The move came after the Supreme Court on Friday drew the telecom companies' attention to the pending dues in contravention of its October 24, 2019 verdict that upheld the DoT’s definition of AGR and found the telecom operators guilty of under-reporting their revenues.

According to DoT calculations, Bharti Airtel has to pay Rs 35,586 crore to the Government and Vodafone Idea Rs 50,000 crore. Airtel has informed that it will pay the rest after self-assessment. It added that the payment will be made before the next hearing of Supreme Court, which so far has been listed for March 17.

The government had decided to refrain from taking any action against mobile service providers that failed to meet the January 24 deadline to pay dues after Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel sought more time.

It needs mention that Jio is the only tele company that has paid its AGR dues worth Rs 195 crore.
