Big question mark over "dramatic" rift between BJP & BPF: Urkhao Gwra Brahma

TANGLA: Former Rajya Sabha MP and United People's Front Liberal (UPPL) leader Urkhao Gwra Brahma yesterday declared that a big question mark over the rift between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) which he has termed as "overdramatic".

"There is still a big question mark over their alleged rift. It is because Chandra Brahma, Rihon Daimary, and Pramila Rani Brahma are still Ministers in the Sarbananda Sonowal-led Cabinet," the former MP said on the sidelines of a massive election rally in Tangla, Udalguri.

Brahma said that the allegations of "corruption" in the BTC should have been resolved by the State Government earlier. "The State Government cannot simply keep alleging corruption, they must take action against it. The rift between the BJP and BPF still baffles and it seems like an in-house quarrel. It seems over-dramatic at times," Urkhao Gwra Brahma said.

Reacting to the BJP's "aggressive" campaigning in the poll-bound BTC region, Brahma said, "The mandate will be for the BTR treaty as a majority of the population want its successful implementation. The BPF party will be hampered by its opposition to the BTR treaty. As for the BJP, it does not have a base here and no matter how aggressively they campaign, they will not see growth here."

Claiming that the public now has "unprecedented faith" in the UPPL, Brahma said that his party's ascension is "natural" and it is well poised for an election triumph.

Responding to rumours of a possible alliance between the UPPL and the BJP, Brahma said, "There is no understanding between the BJP and the BPF parties as our candidates are squaring off against each other in the same Constituencies."

The UPPL leader also claimed that many more members of the BPF party will be leaving after the polls. "However, our doors are now closed to the likes of Biswajit Daimary and Emmanuel Mosahary. These leaders come from a regional background and have now gone on to represent a national party. They should have thought long and hard before making that switch," he added.

The former Rajya Sabha MP also exuded hope that the UPPL would form the Government in the BTC with an "absolute majority" when all is said and done. "The BJP party will win 1-2 seats, the BPF will win Seats in the single digits, while the Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) of Naba Sarania will score a blank. According to preliminary surveys, the UPPL will win 30 Seats and form the Government with an absolute majority."
