GUWAHATI: Political firebrand and Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary today urged the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) party in the lead up to the polls and join national powerhouse BJP instead -- which we predicted will sweep the polls likely to be held in the first half of December.

Daimary said that he has decided to shift camps to the BJP party as the BPF is sure to lose in the impending polls in the forthcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections, due to be held in the month of December. "Instead of staying on in a party that is sure to be handed a resounding defeat in the ensuing polls, all should join the BPF and strengthen the party. I call upon all the BPF party workers to join the party", he said, addressing the press.

Stating that the BJP is sure to "form the Government" , Daimary added that all should participate in the parivartan process "in advance" before the elections.

The BJP, it needs mention here, is strengthening itself in the Bodo-dominating region by welcoming Daimary and another BPF heavyweight -- MLA Emmanuel Mosahary --ahead of the crucial polls. If Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is to be believed, the BPF is likely to be excluded from the ruling coalition if the BJP once again comes to power in next year's elections.

Reaction to a query on being floated as a potential CEM candidate from the BJP, Daimary said, "I do not know much about the BJP. Am yet to join. After I join, I will do whichever task is being assigned to be."

The agenda after the election, Daimary said, is to ease the communal tensions in the BTC region. Secondly, he said, the rights of the non-Bodo residents of the region must be given to them. Thirdly, the mistakes and mis-rule of the former administration led by Hagrama have to be undone, said Daimary. "We have to develop the BTC region and undo the mistakes of the past -- such as corruption. There is a Rs 3,000 crore liability, which will take could take us 10-15 years to repay."

Speaking on the burning of his effigies by angered BPF workers, Daimary said, "This is reasonable as I have been associated with the BPF for a long time. I have left after dissatisfaction with the party top brass. The workers are naturally dejected as they have worked for the upliftment of the party."
