GUWAHATI: Biswajit Daimary, a longtime member of the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) party, today resigned as the working president and said that he is looking forward at a "fresh start."

In a letter dashed off to the party's supremo and 3-time BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary, Daimary wrote, "Having been a member of the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) from the date of the party's inception, it is now time for me to move on. I am resigning as the Working President of BPF as on date of this letter as you well know, this is a path that has been drawing itself out over the last three months."

Stating that his aim and purpose remains the same, Daimary stated that he is "unable to do this anymore within this party."

"To reflect and realize the aspiration of my people and my workers, I believe it is best that I now look ahead at a fresh start," he stated, adding, "I would like to thank you and through you all my party colleagues for providing me with a platform to have served the people."

Recently, Assam Cabinet Minister and BJP's point-man in the Northeast Himanta Biswa Sarma had said that Daimary would be joining the BPF party ahead of the high-voltage polls in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). “Biswajit Daimary and Emmanuel Mushahary shall both be joining the BJP party very soon. Since Biswajit Daimary is a member of the Rajya Sabha, we will have to fix a date and time for his joining. His body and soul are both with the BJP already.”

At a a rally held yesterday, Hagrama, responding to a query about Daimary quitting the party said, "I don't have any information about it, but I am with the BPF. I am not going anywehere."
