BJP candidate from Golaghat Ajanta Neog tests COVID-19 negative in swab test

GOLAGHAT: BJP candidate from Golaghat Ajanta Neog, who was tested COVID-19 positive for a second time within seven months on Friday, tested negative on RT-PCR test.

Neog tweeted her RT-PCR test report this evening stating: “I feel pleased to inform people of Golaghat constituency as well as of Assam that the swab test result conducted in Gauhati Medical College and Hospital today confirmed that I am COVID-19 negative.”

She had tested positive in a rapid antigen test on Friday.

She had earlier tested positive for coronavirus in August last year and had undergone treatment at Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH).

The Golaghat constituency will go to polls in the first phase on March 27.

Having switched party from Congress to BJP a few months ago following which the rural masses are still confused about her election symbol, Neog was campaigning extensively in her constituency over the past few days.

BJP’s Jorhat MP Topon Kumar Gogoi was also tested positive for the virus for the second time on Friday.

Gogoi first tested positive for COVID-19 in March last year and was administered plasma therapy at GMCH.

Assam has been witnessing a surge COVID-19 cases. The total number of active cases rose to 303 after detection of 27 more yesterday.
