GUWAHATI: Ashima Bordoloi, the Congress' candidate from the East Guwahati Constituency, today issuing a warning to the ruling BJP-led coalition government, said that its policies have been an abject failure and it is quickly losing the trust of the people.

"East Guwahati is not a new Constituency or a new environment to me. I have been attached to the people of the Constituency since the time my father was an MLA. I was a Councillor also and during my tenure, I got the opportunity to work closely with the people of the Constituency. Therefore, I am in good stead to represent the people of the Constituency."

Asked about the election strategy ahead of the battle of the ballots against BJPs candidate Siddhartha Bhattacharya, Ashima Bordoloi said, "The sitting MLA is the Minister of GDD but he has never reached out to the masses due to which there are grievances. Despite winning with over one lakh votes (from East Guwahati), they have disappointed the public who are in great distress. They have also been unable to implement the schemes. Most of the benefits have been distributed among their workers' families. Thus, there is mass resentment."

Bordoloi said that if elected to power, her main concerns will be the provision to clean drinking water, addressing the problem of flooding, apart from working to overturn the Citizenship Amendment Act.

"Moreover, we, the Congress, will never allow the BJP-led government to implement the draconian CAA," she asserted.

Yesterday night, the Congress party released a list of 21 candidates for the third phase of Assam Assembly Election 2021.

The party is contesting the Assam Assembly Elections in alliance with the AIUDF, BPF, CPI(M), CPI, CPI-ML, and the Anchalik Gana Morcha. While the grand old party is contesting from 90 Constituencies, its allies will be contesting in 36 Constituencies.

The party had earlier released three lists which consisted of the names of 40, three, and 26 candidates respectively. The latest list takes the total number of candidates to 90.
