GUWAHATI: BJP national president JP Nadda today mocked the Congress saying that the BJP government has saved the rhino from extinction over the past five years, but endangered the the existence of the Congress in Assam.

“In the past five years, we have freed the encroached land in the satras and Kaziranga (National Park) from illegal migrants, and have put an end to poaching of rhinos. Now the rhinos in Assam are safe, but the future existence of the Congress is endangered,” Nadda said addressing election rallies at Dharmapur in Nalbari as well as at Bilasipara in Dhubri district today.

Further, the senior leader took a dig at the Congress-All India United Democratic Front alliance and went on to say that the Congress has lost its mental balance.

“Rahul Gandhi says Badruddin Ajmal is the symbol of Assam. The pall bearers of the image of Assam are Gopinath Bardoloi, Bhupen Hazarika, Srimanta Sankardev and Srimanta Madhavdev. The one who indulges in the politics of diving the society, the one who supports illegal immigration, that Badruddin Ajmal can never be the symbol of Assam,” Nadda said.

Nadda also linked the Congress with the recent toolkit in support of farmers’ protest against the three contentious farm laws. “Recently, an international toolkit was created to defame India. In this toolkit, an attempt was made to defame India’s tea and Yoga. Congress has been found to be protecting those who are part of the conspiracy to create the toolkit. We have to give a befitting reply to such people,” he said.

Several activists have so far been arrested in connection with the toolkit.

Taking a jibe at the Congress leaders’ visit to the state over the past couple of months, the senior BJP leader said: “These days Congress leaders are visiting Assam as part of political tourism. Congress leaders these days visit the tea gardens and click pictures of gardens in the background.”

Accusing the Congress of not empowering the poor, he said: “Rahul Gandhi has tweeted that there is a difference between jumlas and development. This is exactly what we have said, Rahul Gandhi. The slogan of Garibi Hatao was used from Indira Gandhi to Rajiv Gandhi to Sonia Gandhi, but the Congress has so far done nothing to empower the poor.”

Nadda, however, had to cancel one of his rallies at VIP near Borjhar on the city outskirts due to incessant rain.
