GUWAHATI: Congress leaders today turned down heavily on the rival BJP and claimed that the saffron party has acceded defeat even before the elections are over.

Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge today claimed that Sarbananda Sonowal is missing from the core campaign due to his alleged "failures" of his administration.

"Why would any party not go into an election with the face of the incumbent CM? The Congress went with the face of Late Shri Tarun Gogoi in all of the last 4 elections because we could proudly showcase the work that his government had accomplished," he said, adding that the BJP is so scared of being asked about the accomplished promises from the last 5 years that it has resorted to keeping the incumbent CM away.

The BJP is so worried about losing that ‘Gujarati Mama’ has admitted that the party doesn’t trust the face of Sarbananda Sonowal and they will rethink the CM face, if they win, he added.

He further claimed that the BJP has denied tickets to 18% of its sitting MLAs (11 out of 60 MLAs) as it "wants to erase the wounds of unfulfilled promises from the minds of the people."

Stating that the election is about the "Congress Guarantees vs BJP’s unfulfilled promises", he exuded confidence that there will be a landslide victory for Congress.

With the finish line in sight, even the BJP has acceded defeat and throughout the campaign, the BJP has tried to run away from questions related to its performance in the last 5 years, he said.

Nicknaming Himanta Biswa as 'Gujarati Mama', he attacked the Minister for stating that PM Modi and Amit Shah will decide upon the next

Taking a potshot at the BJP ally United People's Party Liberal's promises to rehabilitate surrendered militants in the military, he said, "As per news reports United People's Party Liberal- a BJP ally, has promised that surrendered cadres of militant organizations will be provided jobs in the army and paramilitary forces according to their ranks. Since when can a State party promise jobs in the Defense forces? It is again a desperate attempt to misguide people for votes. Why is the BJP silent on this?"

Meanwhile, Congress spokesperson Gourav Vallabh, attacking Sonowal, accused him of involvement in myriad syndicates in the state.
