GUWAHATI: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) Media Chairperson Bobbeeta Sharma on Tuesday came down heavily on BJP for paying a deaf ear to the demands of six indigenous communities of the state for giving ST status.

"The six communities of Assam who had been demanding ST status for a long time have been again backstabbed by the BJP Government", she said.

In a press statement, Sharma said that it is one primary example of BJP’s false promises and failures.

Citing the example of the neighbouring state of Arunachal Pradesh, Sharma said that a Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on August 9 for according ST status to 12 tribal communities from the state.

However, nothing was done for the six communities from Assam - Tai -Ahoms, Moran, Muttock, Koch Rajbongshi, Chutias and Tea Tribes who had been demanding ST status for a long time in Assam, said Sharma.

Pointing out to a sign board of the Adani Group in Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, she said, "We demand to know that in the contract with the Adani group whether the Government has given a clause to keep the name of the airport in the name of our leader Bharat Ratna Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi or not ?

The Government should make the clause public if there is any and under no circumstances should the name of Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi be removed from the airport", she added.

Speaking further about the Assam-Mizoram border clash, Sharma held both the CM's responsible for 'worsening the situation by indulging in 'Twitter war' which was like an invitation to incite violence in the area'.
