BJP has wasted public money on water: Debabrata Saikia on flood management

Debabrata Saikia, the current Leader of Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly came down heavily upon the ruling BJP government due to the wrath of the uncontrolled Assam floods.

"CM announcements are all in the show. Earlier, it was announced that all embankments will be made because of their paribartan government and from January to March target given by CM. However, the tender came in May during Monsoons. As such, public money has been wasted in the water".

A total of 50 people have died in the ravaging deluge that has continued wreaking havoc across Assam. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, 2,7653 villages across 27 districts in the state are reeling under floodwater.

A total of 21,63,010 people and 1,03,806 hectares cropland have been adversely affected so far in the flood. Several rivers including the mighty Brahmaputra in different parts of Assam are flowing above danger level, causing floods and consequently leaving thousands of families homeless.

On the issue of Hojai BJP Shiladitya Dev reisgnation, Debarata Saika said, "he has not said to go to other parties but has raised an issue that new people are ruling it and the old people are avoided. There is also govt corruption with reports of the CBI team that Meghalaya coal is syndicated in Cachar. The BJP party new people have taken political power as well".

Debabrata Saikia is the current Leader of Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly. Saikia was elected to the Assam Legislative Assembly in 2011 from Nazira constituency and retained his seat in 2016. He is the son of former Chief Minister of Assam, Hiteswar Saikia.
