GUWAHATI: Senior BJP leader and Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today cast his vote at the Amingaon High School in the third and final phase of the 2021 Assembly election.

Asked about the party’s agenda if it is re-elected to power, Biswa Sarma said, “It is the development of Assam and the safeguard of our culture.”

He further added that the party will seek to fulfill the promises made in its Sankalp Parta manifesto in case it is re-elected to power. The minister also predicted that the BJP-led alliance will win 22 of the 40 Seats that are on offer in the third phase of polling.

Biswa Sarma, who is an immensely popular figure in his home constituency of Jalukari due to proper and timely implementation of schemes, was greeted by a massive crowd that clamored to click 'selfies' with the minister.

Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, the minister’s entrepreneur wife, also cast her ballot at the same polling station and hailed the Jalukbari model of development adopted by her husband.

Talking to InsideNE, Bhuyan said: “Jalukbari has reached a stage of transformation. What is not there? The people have received whatever they have desired -- be it roads or anything else. Jalukbari is the very picture of development.”

Stressing on the need to develop the education and health sector in the coming times, Bhuyan said, “Himanta has already undertaken initiatives to take the youth forward as these are the cornerstones of change.”

In Phase-III, there are 79,19,641 voters, of which 40,11,539 males, 39,07,963 females and 139 transgenders. In all, there are 2,33,74,087 electors across the 126 constituencies in Assam. In the Special Summary Revision, a total of 12,81,918 new electors have been enrolled. The state has a total of 2,89,474 electors who are above 80 years of age to whom postal ballot facility was provided.
