KOLKATA: BJP MP Manoj Tiwari was seen flouting COVID-19 norms while urging people to practice precautions during campaign at Barrackpore for the West Bengal assembly election 2021, even as India grapples with the second wave of COVID-19.

Tiwari expressed his belief in the BJP's ability to win the West Bengal elections.

The BJP MP said: "We are taking a chance because there is no alternative to elections," adding that "I have been consistently appealing to people to obey the coronavirus guidelines."

Tiwari posted a video of his road show in Barasat on Twitter, showing a large crowd gathering to see the glimpse of BJP MP.

During his campaign trail, the BJP MP was seen atop a truck without a mask on his face. A large number of BJP supporters were also seen breaking social distance rules and other coronavirus protocols while on the road show.

Tiwari wrote in Hindi while tweeting the video: "We are campaigning because elections are important and there is no alternative to polls." He also urged people to stay indoors and obey COVID-19 guidelines.

The Election Commission has consistently urged political parties to adhere to the COVID election campaign guidelines. Thousands of people, on the other hand, have been attending major rallies addressed by star campaigners from many West Bengal assembly election groups.

When attending the protests, people have been defying social distance norms.
