GUWAHATI: Bharatiya Janata Party Assam Pradesh president Bhabesh Kalita has explained the "logic" behind the hike in petrol price and also solutions to tackle it as the petrol price crossed Rs 100 mark in Guwahati today.

"Change in price depends of Internation market. The Assam government has no control over it. We have already denied talking about the Rs 5 subsidy. I myself saw today how many vehicles people have bought in recent times. If we stop buying vehicles then the petrol-diesel price will decrease automatically," said Kalita talking with the press persons.

Kalita also emphasised using bicycles and taking a walk to the market instead of going on any fuel run vehicle.

"Sacrifices have to be made at some points. We have to focus on production. Demand has to meet supply. Otherwise, a price hike is natural. Everyone knows this logic," Kalita expressed.

On asked by journalists, why political leaders use many vehicles, Kalita said, "I do not bring escorts with me. I come in my own small car. You should too. What is the need for that big car? Come on cycle. Three persons can come on the same bike too. Get a license from the government."

Yesterday, Assam MP and Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Rameswar Teli said that water is costlier than petrol.

"Petrol is not that costly. There are taxes imposed on its price," said Teli.

Teli further questioned the present media persons,"Have not you administered COVID-19 vaccines for free? Did you pay anything for that? Then from where these arrived? Money required for vaccines came like that only.'

Teli received massive backlash from media and netizens after his comment. Later today, Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika said that he did not support such claims and he himself felt that if petrol price could be reduced then everyone will be benefited.
