The Bodo community on Wednesday paid tribute to 'Bodofa' (father of Bodos) Upendra Nath Brahma on his 29th death anniversary (1 May). A ceremony was held at his birthplace Tulungapuri, Dotma, in Kokrajhar on Wednesday to commemorate the fallen leader.

Hundreds gathered to pay floral tributes to 'Bodofa' at his tomb at Kojrajhar. The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) also observed the day at the BTC Secretariat.

Many prominent leaders of the region such as Minister Pramila Rani Brahma, ABSU President Pramod Boro, BTC executive member Doneswar Goyary and UPPL leader Urkhao Gwra Brahma were among the people who paid tribute to the departed leader on his 29th death anniversary.

Upendranath Brahma (31 March 1956 – 1 May 1990) was a Bodo social activist and the former president of ABSU who spearheaded the Bodoland movement with the motto of “live and let live.” Brahma died in Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital in Mumbai on 1 May 1990 as a consequence of blood cancer. His body was taken to Kokrajhar and then buried at Dotoma on 4 May. The ground where Brahma was buried is now known as "Thulungapuri".
