Kokrajhar, January 20, 2020:

The National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Saoraigwra) or NDFB-(S) has informed that a peaceful and separate Bodoland is their main demand from the Government of India.

Expressing his gratitude to the state and central governments for welcoming the NDFB(S) cadres, NDFB President, B Saoraigwra said, “Very soon the political issue of the Bodos will be solved… We convey our love and gratitude to the people of Assam. We believe that we will certainly be able to solve the long pending problem of the Bodos.”

NDFB(S) Secretary BR Feranga is also hopeful that the discussion with the government yields positive results. “I hope that through this negotiation the government will bring a peaceful solution to the Bodos. Bodoland is our demand,” he said.

It may be mentioned here that more than fifty cadres have returned to India from Myanmar through the Nagaland and Manipur international borders in order to discuss peace deals with the government. They arrived with their families on January 11 to venture into a more peaceful world by discussing their issues with the centre and come to a peaceful solution.

According to the two NDFB(S) leaders, the government had been welcoming to the idea of agreeing to the terms and conditions of the group. “The government of India has taken this initiative. Within a short period, we will see the results. We are discussing about peace and how to solve the Bodo issue. We believe that it is going to be resolved very soon.

Responding to a question on whether NDFB would exist after the peace talks, the president replied, “There can be no question on the existence of NDFB. We are NDFB,” implying that the NDFB would never cease to exist.

The two leaders have clearly conveyed the demand of the group. “We want our political right. We want a separate state. Through discussions, it will be solved,” said the secretary.

Responding to another query on why the group leaders, B Bidai and K Batha, are yet to turn up for the ongoing peace talks, NDFB(S) Secretary BR Feranga said, “The agreement will be an inclusive one. There is no question of B Bidai and K Batha not involved in the process. Everybody will come since they are part of our organization. So, they will also be part of this peace negotiation.”

It needs mention here that the Bodos have been demanding a separate Bodoland since decades and the NDFB(S) cadres have returned from Myanmar to put an end to the conflict and work towards a peaceful Bodoland. Currently, they are sheltered at the first designated camp in Kokrajhar's Dighli village.

“It is about the constitutional rights that the Bodos have been demanding and the peace talks will be a respectful one,” said Feranga, adding that their demand for Bodoland is the main result they look forward to. They are hopeful that the differences can be solved through discussions with the government.
