Numaligarh, June 27, 2019:

In a tragic incident, a baby elephant has been discovered dead in Numaligarh in Golaghat district of Assam.

It may be mentioned that elephants have ventured into lands inhabited by humans due to a dearth of food, which has cased many a man-elephant conflict in the region.

In the midst of this situation, an elephant baby's corpse has been discovered in Numaligarh's BGK Tea Garden.

It is believed that the elephant cub died merely a week after being born.

Chunks of flesh belonging to the dead animal have been found all across the tea garden.

It may be mentioned that jumbos have in the news quite a bit recently.

Recently, there was a hue and cry in Assam over the trasportation of four elephants from Tinsukia of Assam to Ahmedabad in Gujarat for participating in the annual Rath Yatra festival to be held there on July 4, 2019.

Kaliabor MP Gaurav Gogoi even appealed to the central government to intervene into the matter. He wrote to the Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, GoI, Prakash Javedkar to take immediate step to stop the transportation.
