Bollywood celebs tweet Arunachal CM over pending wages of Pakke Tiger reserve workers

ITANAGAR: Actor Randeep Hooda and Dia Mirza took to Twitter on Thursday to ask Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu to release the pending payment of the contingency workers of Pakke Tiger Reserve.

Since December 2020, some 202 workers at Arunachal Pradesh’s Pakke Tiger Reserve have been on strike due to non-payment of wages, despite the fact that the amount was given by the Indian government in January.

“Dear @PemaKhanduBJP you took an applause worthy stand to save #PakkeTigerReserve request you to please look into this problem of frontline warriors and release their rightful pending wages immediately”, Actor Randeep Hooda tweeted.

Dia Mirza also tweeted in support of workers and wrote, “Our #GreenSoldiers perform the selfless duty of protecting our forests far from their families with risk to life everyday. All they ask is to be paid their salary”

She added,“Kindly let us know why the delay? @PemaKhanduBJP @moefcc don’t our #GreenSoldiers deserve more respect and care?”

According to the sources, the workers will continue the strike until their demands are granted. The workers are also demanding regularisation of jobs and monthly payment of salaries.

Pakke Tiger Reserve also known as Pakhui Tiger Reserve, is a Project Tiger reserve located in Arunachal Pradesh’s Pakke Kessang district.

The Arunachal Pradesh Department of Environment and Forests protects the 862 km2 (333 sq mi) reserve.

For its Hornbill Nest Adoption Program this Tiger Reserve received the India Biodiversity Award 2016 in the category of ‘Conservation of Threatened Species.
