SHILLONG: Prestone Tynsong, the Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya has said that the resolution of the border dispute with neighbouring Assam is unlikely to be done before the elections in the neighbouring `scheduled later this year.

Asked about the long-pending boundary dispute with Assam, Tynsong stated the state government will not be able to do anything for now due to the upcoming Assam general elections to be held this year.

“Assam is going to have its general election this year, so I don’t think we will be able to do anything, so hopefully when the general election of Assam is over, again this pending issue will be taken up by the MDA government under the leadership of Conrad K Sangma,” he assured.

This was disclosed by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, who said, “We are committed to pursue all the pending issues which include resolutions adopted in the state Assembly relating to ILP, Khasi and Garo languages, with the central government."

The Deputy CM also informed that representatives of the MDA would soon visit Delhi. “Let the chief minister join back to his normal duty and once he comes back, we will sit down, we will work it out, and then ultimately we will again rush to Delhi to pursue the pending issues with the central government."
