UDALGURI: Assam cabinet minister and North East Democratic Alliance convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma today took a jibe at Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) as well as the Congress as obsolete parties in Assam’s political scenario.

Calling the BPF a punctured football and the Congress a demonetized Rs 500 currency note, Sarma said it was not worth speaking about Hagrama Mohilary’s BPF any more in the present context. He also used the BPF and United People’s Party-Liberal (UPPL) elections symbols of the plough and the tractor respectively to describe the BPF obsolete.

“Wherever Hagrama Mohilary goes these days, he use to take a dig at the functioning of (Bodoland Territorial Council chief) Pramod Boro and UPPL. Let him do so. He is a punctured football only, and when there is no air inside the ball, will it move ahead even if you apply force? So, it’s not worth talking about them anymore,” said Sarma.

He also accused the BPF and Congress of trying to destablise the BTC “in order to ensure that progress can be stalled in BTR (Bodoland Territorial Region)” and that the UPPL-BJP executive in the BTC was still struggling to clear the mess the BPF had created over the past 17 years.

“I also wonder what made Hagrama Mohilary join hands with the Congress. I would like to ask him where does Congress exist today? Is it in UP? Is it in Bihar? The plight of Congress is like a demonetised Rs 500 currency note. It’s worth nothing after (Narendra) Modi demonetised it. I know, zero plus zero is equal to zero, not one,” the minister taunted.

Further, Sarma called the Congress-led grand alliance a “mahajot (grand hassle)” instead of ‘Mahajoth’.
