TAMULPUR: Ahead of the Assembly elections in Assam, senior Bodoland People's Front (BPF) leader Ganesh Kachary has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BPF) of attempting to polarize Assamese society along Hindu-Muslim lines.

Addressing a large public meeting, he said that the BJP government, which has given the slogan Savka Sath, Savka Vikash, Savka Biswas, "has done vote politics in the name of Hindus and Muslims."

He further asserted that the mahajot comprising the Congress, BPF, and AIUDF, is "100 per cent sure to form a government in Assam by uprooting Narendra Modi's BJP government this time."

"The BJP party of Sarbananda Sonowal and Himanta Biswa Sharma is a party of false promise. They have shown many false hopes and false dreams to the public," said Kachari, speaking at an election campaign meeting in support of BPF Rangja Khungur Basumtary.

The former Executive Member of the BTC today said that all the promises made by Narendra Modi when he came to Assam in 2014 have already been broken.

"The BJP, which came to power has not been able to evict Bangladeshis from Assam till date but has been abetting Hindu Bengalis in Assam," he accosted, adding that Hindu Bengalis have been kept in detention camps in the name of 'D' voters where many of them have died.

The BJP government 'duped' the people of Assam by making fake promises like construction of twin tower, and building of a smart city, construction of an express highway on both sides of Brahmaputra, mining of the Brahmaputra, etc.

Taking a dig at the '100 plus' Seats that the BJP has projected, Kachari said, "We have seen 100 plus that the BJP party is talking about today is only the price of lentils, mustard oil, petrol, etc which have risen dramatically since it rose to power."

The long-time politician also had harsh words for the UPPL-BJP-GSP coalition government, which came to power with the promise of good governance, saying that contractors today have to pay 15 to 22 per cent of the money to the UPPL-led BTC administration in the name of giving good governance.

"Before coming to power, the UPPL lured unemployed youth with the promise of giving jobs and donating Rs 75,000 to self-help groups...all of which has been proven to be false," he added.

"All these things are understood by people today. So the people of Tamulpur along with the people of BTC are ready to give a befitting reply to the UPPL-BJP-GSP coalition," he said.

When it was his turn to speak, BPF candidate Rangja Khungur Basumtary turned down heavily on former Tamulpur MLA Emmanuel Mosahary who defected to the BJP in the lead up to the Council election.

Altogether 30 people including 8 BJP workers, 20 UPPL workers, and 2 GSP workers joined the BPF party in today's meeting.
