BAKSA: Former Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Chief Hagrama Mohilary yesterday said that the departure of former Working President Biswajit Daimary would not affect the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) in the forthcoming Council elections.

"I have nothing to say about this. If someone wishes to leave the party and join some other party, it is upto them. If he is not happy with the BPF and wants to leave the party, it is upto him, it is not something that we have a say in," Hagrama said on the sidelines of an election programme yesterday.

In yesterday's rally, Hagrama promised to give land pattas to the people and warned that the Promod Boro led United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) is likely to evict people from their lands.

The BPF leader also said that the people of all communities have been living amicably ever since the BPF came to power.

Several top leaders of the BPF -- including Mohilary, Pramila Rani Brahma, and Chandan Brahma --yesterday made a stop at Baksa's Kumarikata to campaign for the polls in the 40-member Council.

Biswajit Daimary, a longtime member of the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) party, yesterday resigned as the working president and said that he is looking forward at a “fresh start.”

In a letter dashed off to the party’s supremo and 3-time BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary, Daimary wrote, “Having been a member of the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) from the date of the party’s inception, it is now time for me to move on. I am resigning as the Working President of BPF as on date of this letter as you well know, this is a path that has been drawing itself out over the last three months.”
