Brahmaputra Festival in Assam & Arunachal Pradesh: Here's what you need to know

DIBRUGARH: Brahmaputra Board, Ministry of Jalshakti, Government of India, is organising the "Brahmaputra Utsav: to celebrate the mighty river Brahmaputra across Assam and Arunachal Pradesh from 16-22 December as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

The Brahmaputra Utsav will travel from Dibrugarh to Majuli, Koliabor, Guwahati and Pasighat.

The celebration of ‘Nadi Utsav’ was highlighted by Hon’ble Prime Minister on the occasion of the World River Day on 26 September, 2021, in order to connect with the traditions which are associated with the rivers.

Dibrugarh district celebrated the Brahmaputra Utsav with a two-day program which ended today. The celebrations kicked off on Thursday with an Eco Walk from the Dibrugarh Municipal Board office to Puja Ghat near the Brahmaputra River.

A cleaning drive, as well as a drawing and essay writing competition for all ages were held at the Puja Ghat on the banks of the Brahmaputra River.

Furthermore, the famous Raidongia Dol monument in Lejai-Kalakhowa was illuminated at night. A bicycle rally departed from the Deputy Commissioner’s Office and traveled via Khanikar to the Sessa bridge. A Yoga programme was held at the Multipurpose Sports Stadium.

Assam Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika was the Chief Guest and Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukan was the Guest of Honour for the Brahmaputra Utsav's  cultural evening.

Lahowal MLA Binod Hazarika, Chairman, Brahmaputra Board Rajiv Yadav, Biswajit Pegu, DC, Dibrugarh were also present at the occasion.

Sattriya, Bihu and Bodo dance forms were displayed, while popular artiste Ridip Rankit enthralled the crowd with a few of his hit numbers.

Brahmaputra Utsav celebrates mystical and cultural river Brahmaputra through storytelling, folklores, dialogues with eminent personalities, quizzes, displaying traditional art forms, dance and music performance, photo exhibitions to highlight the cultural richness along river Brahmaputra.
