Officials of the Guijan forest division repeatedly beat the fire with logs and were finally able to subdue the inferno after 4 hours. The fire engulfed a region of many hectares and spread for more than 4 kms. “Due to lack of water due to winter, we had to beat the fire with sticks. We doused around 2 km of forest fire. 7-8 hectares of forest area caught fire. Danger to the fauna has been averted”, stated a forest Ranger who had helped douse the flames.

The locals as well as wildlife lovers expressed their gratitude to the Guijan forest officials for their brave efforts. Despite the shortage of water, they were able to control the situation by dint of their bravery and presence of mind.
