SHILLONG: Meghalaya cabinet on Friday has taken the decision to provide relief on the fuel prices in the state.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma informed that the state cabinet has decided to reduce VAT on petrol from 20% to 13.5% & diesel from 12% to 5% per litre.

"Cabinet has decided to provide a relief on the fuel prices in the state by reducing the VAT on petrol from 20% to 13.5% & diesel from 12% to 5% per litre, providing relief of ₹10 to our consumers", tweeted the Chief Minister.

Among other important decisions, the state Cabinet has also decided to upgrade Mairang Civil Sub- Division to a full-fledged district after the proposal put up by the Political Department was approved.

The inauguration of the new district will take place on Novermber 10, 2021. Reportedly, the district will be known as Eastern West Khasi Hills.

With this addition, Meghalaya will have now have 12 districts in total.
