GUWAHATI: Popular Twitter profile 'Voice of Axom' has earned the wrath of the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) and its sister organization Jatiya Mahila Shakti for an 'objectionable' post against Lurin Jyoti Gogoi. The latter has lodged a formal complaint at the Panzabar Police Station in Guwahati city, while urging the concerned officials to investigate the matter.

The morphed 'meme', originally posted on January 24, shows Lurin Jyoti Gogoi, the President of Assam Jatiya Parishad in the attire of a woman shown to have been chased by Amit Shah, The Minister of Home Affairs.

"Sir / Madam, the meme portrays the Indian women in today's developed world not only

vulnerable to the actions of the masculine gender but also portrays the women to be weak. At this

time, when the whole nation is moving towards the constitutional goal of gender equality, this Twitter

page is trying to demean the women of Indian Society by showing them as weak and feeble whose

image and reputation could be tarnished without any consequences," it has been written in the FIR.

"As such, it is hereby, requested you to kindly look into the matter and take appropriate actions under Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act and under such other laws as may be deemed fit and proper. It is also sincerely believed that immediate actions be taken against the person(s) involved in the said act," it adds.

Jatiya Mahila Shakti President Aparajita Saikia told Inside NE, "At a time when crimes against women are at an all-time high and the AJP party is seeking to empower women, this sort of post will set us back by several years. Even though it was a joke, it has hurt the sentiments of women. Because it depicts a man aggressively chasing a woman, it has hurt our sentiments and we are urging the authorities to investigate the matter."

"If the roles were reversed, what would the reaction of the BJP-led government be? It would certainly have shown its vindictive nature," she further told this publication.
