New Delhi, July 3, 2019:

Amid much speculation of "will he?" or "won't he?", Congress leader Rahul Gandhi (popularly known as RaGa) has finally decided to step down as the President of the 'Grand Old Party' of India.

Rahul posted a heartfelt open letter on social media, where he took full responsibility for the party's dismal showing in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

The Gandhi scion said that it is an honor for him to serve the party, who values and ideas have served as a lifeblood of the nation. He said that he owes the country and the party a debt of gratitude and love.

"As President of the Congress I am responsible for the loss of 2019 election", Rahul Gandhi wrote.

Taking accountability for the loss of the election, he said that rebuilding the party requires hard decisions and stated that numerous people will have to be made accountable for the failure of 2019.

Taking at jibe at the ruling BJP in his farewell letter, Rahul said that an attack on the country and the Constitution is "designed to destroy the fabric of the nation". He said that he is not stepping away from the 'fight' and said that he will continue to 'protect' the nation till his last breath.

Rahul also said that a 'free press, judiciary, and transparent election commission' are required to ensure a free and fair election and alleged that the BJP has complete monopoly over the financial resources.

He stated that the Congress fought the 'entire machinery' of the Indian state and lamented that 'neutrality' no longer exists India.

The Narendra Modi led BJP party won a staggering 303 seats in the 2019 election, while the Congress party struggled hard to retain even their old bastions (such as Rahul's constituency Amethi, which he lost to the BJP's Smriti Irani).
