BSF plants over 1 lakh saplings along Tripura border

In a bid to make the environment greener, the Border Security Force (BSF) has planted 1.28 lakh saplings in all of its border outposts and camps along the Indo-Bangladesh border.

AGARTALA: In a bid to make the environment greener, the Border Security Force (BSF) has planted 1.28 lakh saplings in all of its border outposts and camps along the Indo-Bangladesh border of the state.

The figure was achieved over a period of one week during which several medicinal and fruit-bearing plants were planted.

The initiative was started as a part of the World Environment Day celebrations.

Reportedly, seven varieties of local fruits and nine varieties of medicinal plants were planted during the drive.

The sapling planted have been promoted by the state forest department keeping in mind the weather conditions and scope of value addition in the markets.

Last year, the Tripura government had launched an afforestation program aiming to increase the forest cover above 80% by 2023.

The state government had also made an announcement to pay a monthly allowance of Rs 200 to each family taking care of the plants by the road near their houses.
