BSF returns Bangladeshi teenager who had strayed into Meghalaya

SHILLONG: The Border Security Force (BSF) has returned a Bangladeshi teenager who strayed into Indian territory as a sign of "mutual cooperation and an emphasis on the well-being of both nations' border populations."

The BSF, which is in charge of guarding the 4,096-kilometer India-Bangladesh border said the 12-year-old child was handed over to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Tuesday.

The Bangladeshi youth identified as Hasanur Jamal Abhik was handed over to BGB during a flag meeting between the two border guarding forces of India and Bangladesh at the BSF Border Outpost Dawki and BGB Border Outpost Tamabil.

According to reports, the Bangladeshi youngster is a resident of Dhaka district's Savar area and was discovered roaming in the area of Dawki village on June 6 this year by locals, who gave him over to Dawki police station, which then handed him over to BSF on June 7.
