Kohima, August 14, 2019:

In a tragic accident, a bus carrying Kohima college students to the NSF solidarity park met with an accident today at Billy Graham road in the Nagaland capital.

The students were reportedly on their way to attend the Naga Independence Day celebrations, when the bus met with an accident.

As per reports, 16 injured of the passengers travelling in the bus have been injured and have been admitted to hospital. Break failure has been cited as the cause of the accident.

It may be mentioned that the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) in Nagaland has asked all its chapters across the State to hoist the “Naga national flag” on August 14. All units of the organization will hoist the flag at all strategic locations and share pictorial evidence of the same.

This move of the apex student body has been lauded by the secessionist organizations in the state. Usually, the state’s myriad insurgent groups hoist the flag at their camps on August 14 to celebrate Naga independence.

It may be mentioned that the Naga National Council was a political organization of Naga people, active from the late 1940s to the early 1950s. Under the leadership of Angami Zapu Phizo in the 1940s, it unsuccessfully campaigned for the secession of the Naga territory from India and creation for a sovereign Naga state. Nagaland declared its independence on August 14.
