AGARTALA: The Tripura bus owners’ association has called for a bus strike across the state with effect from today demanding the government to increase bus fare.

The state bus owners’ union is currently under the control of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers’ organisation, Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS).

They had to face extreme trouble during the COVID-19 pandemic, and now the hike in the price of petrol and diesel have added trouble, the agitating workers have said.

Notably, on February 6 the owner’s body had also submitted a memorandum to the state government demanding hike in the bus fare and had set a time limit of 15 days for the government to increase the fare.

After the expiry of the deadline, they again gave the government 4 more days to meet their demand, but the government did not listen to their plea.

“Thus with no other option, we decided to go for an indefinite strike," one of the agitators told the media.
