New Delhi, December 19, 2019:

The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to the Central government, Delhi government and Police to set up a Fact Finding Committee to look into the violence at Jamia Millia Islamia during the protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

The notice was based on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) by Advocate Rizwan. The petition was mentioned before a bench comprising Chief Justice DN Patel and Rekha Palli.

The incident dates back to when four public buses and two police vehicles were torched in Delhi’s New Friends’ Colony near Jamia during a demonstration against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. Six cops and two firemen had sustained injuries, according to reports.

However, according to a students’ body, the protesters had no association with the incident and violence and alleged that the demonstration was disrupted by certain elements.
