Cancel CBSE exams in view of COVID situation, Kejriwal urges Centre

NEW DELHI: Raising concern amid the surge in COVID -19 cases in the Country Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today urged the centre to cancel Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) board exams or to consider conducting exams online.

Speaking about the CBSE Board Exams, Kejriwal says that some alternate approaches should be considered, and that students could be promoted this time based on an online approach or internal evaluation.

“The government is vigilant on the growing Corona affairs and is taking every necessary step,” the chief minister tweeted in Hindi.

He said that over 6 lakh children and nearly 1 lakh teachers will take part in the CBSE Board Exams 2021 in Delhi.

These exam centres may become major hotspots, spreading Corona on a large scale, he added.

The chief minister stated that the health and lives of students are crucial for all.

He also advised the city's youth to stay at home until absolutely necessary before leaving the house. “We're tying up hotels and banquets to share the Covid-19 burden,” he said.

"Cancel Board Exams! "I appeal to the Centre to cancel CBSE board examinations. The safety of our students is our top priority": CM @ArvindKejriwal." tweeted Aam Admi Party.

 

The chief minister's comments come after reports surface that the CBSE is reconsidering its decision to hold board exams for students in classes 10 and 12 in May.

The CBSE Class 10 exams is scheduled to be held between May 4 and June 7, and the Class 12 exams is between May 4 and June 15.

However, owing to the current coronavirus outbreak, students and parents have asked for the CBSE board exams to be postponed.
