NEW DELHI: Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra along with his colleague Rajiv Kumar today tested positive for the novel coronavirus amid the nation's second wave.

Sushil Chandra, the successor to Sunil Arora, assumed office as Chief Election Commissioner last week after the President of India Ram Nath Kovind appointed him as the senior most Election Commissioner in the Election Commission of India.

Chandra will be responsible for assembly polls in Manipur, Goa, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab as all the state assemblies terms are going to end by March to May next year.

The results of the past assembly polls in Assam, West Bengal, Puducherry, Kerala and Tamil Nadu will be declared under Chandra as well on May 2.

Chandra's will demit the office on May 14, 2022.
